Many thanks to everyone who donated and contributed to Walk the Waterfront, which was a very special day. In total we raised £505, taking into account donations at the Scrapstore and October Books as well as a few other personal donations. That's £126 to each of the organisations we were raising funds for (Southampton Scrapstore, The Art house, October Books and Transition Southampton), which is a bit less than the original target but very worthwhile none-the-less. Perhaps a bigger and better event next year raising money for the people's community fund? Drop us a line if you are interested in helping to make this happen.

Sunday 9th April to raise funds for Transition Southampton (past post)

Join us and other friends from Southampton Scrapstore, Three Rivers Community Rail Partnership and October Books on a day Walking the Waterfront in our city. A journey of nearly 20 miles we start at Weston Shore at 8am and walk through Woolston, Chessel Bay, Bitterne Manor, Bitterne Triangle, Northam, Shamrock Quay, Ocean Village and then a train to Redbridge to walk Wharf Park. Another train to Swaythling for the last leg of the trip from Mansbridge to Cobden Bridge, with drinks after to celebrate

We're doing the walk to raise funds for printing our Sustainable Living Guides and are asking for sponsorship through a Crowdfunding page, or you can donate below. Southampton Scrapstore need funds to keep their van on the road. October Books need to update ageing computer systems. If you donate via the Crowdfunding page and want to donate to a specific organisation then please just state which one in your comments. Every donation of £10 or over can claim a free copy of Station Walks, which contains over 30 walks from railway stations between Salisbury and Bursledon. A great book for spring and summer outings and some of the walks will be covered on our Walk the Waterfront ramble. These can be collected from October Books.

We also want to raise awareness about the waterfront access we do have in our city and will walk to some hidden gems and secret places. If you would like to join us on the walk you don't have to do it all! We will be pausing for morning coffee, lunch and afternoon tea (locations to be confirmed) so you can easily join and leave at these points.

If you would like to help with organisation or to participate on the day please contact Clare Diaper on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
