Our Aims
Bike 2 Basics is a Southampton based community bike project. Our aim is to offer services that enable as many people people to cycle safely around the city and surrounding areas. Our services are run by volunteers, and we aim to create an inclusive and fun environment for people to volunteer in.

What do we do?
Currently we offer a Bike Doctor style bicycle repair service in different locations in the city, where we offer safety checks, minor repairs and service work that take ~20 minutes or under to do. We are happy to show people how to do their own repairs, they can watch or even undertake the repairs themselves under supervision, to help them learn how to make their riding safer easier and cheaper. If a large repair is required, we will advise of additional work that needs to be undertaken. You can take this information to your local bicycle repair shop.

When and Where?
Bike 2 Basics will be running regular repair and maintenance sessions on Saturdays at Aldermoor Community Farm, Aldermoor Rd SO16 5NN from 11am to 2pm on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays. Email us or see our facebook page for upcoming dates.

Bike 2 Basics are also present at the Repair Cafe on the first Saturday of each month (except January). This is usually held at the Freemantle United Reformed Church Hall, 257 Shirley Rd from 10.30am – 1pm

We also attend other locations and events around the city – follow us on our Facebook page to keep up to date facebook.com/groups/bike2basics

Funding
We have been very lucky to have recently received funding from Cycling UK as part of their communities project. This money is being invested in tools and training to allow us to expand our services. We do rely on the time and good will of our volunteers to keep our running costs very low but we do have some costs to cover.
Donations – We work on a Pay As You Feel basis for the work we undertake. In a regular bike shop a 20 minute repair could cost you £10 or more (based on £30 an hour), but we are happy to accept any amount based on the work we undertake, the time taken and what you can afford. If you can’t afford to pay that’s OK,we will not turn you away.
Bicycle Parts – Parts supplied by Bike 2 Basics to undertake repairs do have to be paid for at the time of repair. We try to keep prices as low as possible but we do make a small profit on new parts to help fund our services. Examples – Brake Inner Cable £2, V-brake Pads £3
