The deadline for fruit tree orders for 2011 has now passed.
We have launched the second year of our project to buy fruit trees in bulk and pass on the saving to Southampton residents. In our first year, 80 trees (purchased at the bargain price of £7.50) were distributed at an event in The Ropewalk Community Garden in February 2011. This year, over 100 trees have been bought at cost price to add to the virtual orchard across the city.
In 2011, 6 varieties of apple, plus pear and plum trees were offered as part of the scheme. If you have ordered a fruit tree, please remember to pick up your tree on 11th or 12th February at the Southampton Seed Swap at The Art House.
Adopt a tree
In our first year 20 trees were kindly bought by Southampton residents to go in local schools and community spaces. If you would be interested in adopting a tree in 2012, do let us know.
