Repair Cafe

Southampton Repair Cafe happens on the 1st Saturday of every month (except January).

In May we have two repair cafes – our regular one at Freemantle URC church hall, 257 Shirley Rd, Southampton, SO15 3HS on 5th May and an extra one at St Denys Community Centre, Priory Rd, Southampton, SO17 2JZ on 19th May. Both run from 10.30am-13.00pm.

After that we will be back at Freemantle URC on 2nd June and 7 July.
All cafes have our regular repairers for portable electrical, sewing, computer and bike repairs and more, plus (except at St Denys) jewellery repairs. Come and join us for a cuppa and home made cakes even if you dont have anything to repair!

The repair cafe is going from strength to strength, with new repairers volunteering to join our team – but we do still need general helpers to manage the flows of visitors thorugh the cafe and more repairers are also welcome especially those with skills in electrical repair, bikes and sewing.

We are even contemplating whether we can open a new repair cafe on the other side of the city. Our repair cafe at St Denys Community centre on 19th May will need additional helpers and repairers if it is to become a regular event, so do contact us if you’d like to help.

Since we opened in 2014 members of the public have brought nearly 300 bikes, clothes, electrical goods, computers, jewellery, furniture and other goods to be glue, nailed or otherwise repaired. Not everything can be repaired (our success rate is around 80%) but even when something can’t be fixed, visitors are grateful for the advice our talented repairers can give.

Our most popular repairs are to electrical goods (40%) followed by sewing (20%), then bikes and jewellery (both 15%). The remaining 10% is made up of everything else. Around 30% of our visitors come back to a future cafe with further items for repair.

We are following the model begun in Holland (see ( for how they work), and the Malvern Hills Repair Café which we have visited, (see!/MalvernHillsRepairCafe (
