Since we began we have been involved in many projects including Gardening (our Grow You Grow your Community projects and a new offer of Green gardening consultancy from 2 local volunteers), Sustainable Open Homes (showing what ordinary people in Southampton have done to make their homes and lives greener), Draught-busting parties and TREEmendous (bulk buying fruit trees to create a “virtual orchard” in the city. Our members also took part in the Schools Energy Project, surveying homes with thermal cameras to spot heat loss. Our current projects include the popular Repair Cafe and Bike2Basics (community bike doctor). We regularly update our Sustainable Living (obtinable for free – donations welcomed! – at our repair cafes and at October Books. Clean Air Southampton, which after successfully highlighting the need to improve air quality in Southampton has helped create new initiatives such as Breathing Spaces (St Denys) is now supported by Southampton Friends of the Earth.
