Welcome to Transition Southampton
Transition Southampton is committed to working with local communities, organisations and local government to help develop positive solutions that meet the imminent challenges of fossil fuel scarcity (‘Peak Oil’) and Climate Change. Above all, Transition Southampton has a positive vision of a resilient and sustainable future beyond the age of abundant fossil fuel energy.

Local Farm Shop Cycle Ride

farmshopcycle

Transition Southampton and Eastleigh Transition Network have teamed up with Cyclewise and local resident Martin Davis, to run a community bike ride through Hamble and Netley, showcasing local farm shops. The reason for this is that there is the huge Bursledon Tesco, but just around the corner are three fantastic local and independent farm shops, selling delicious local produce. On this cycle ride we aim to visit these three shops, allow time for some small shopping, and then hopefully (if the weather’s nice), go for a picnic along the coast of Hamble/Netley. So if you like cycling and also enjoy local, fresh food, join us on Sunday May 27th. Meet at Woolston station (Garton Road, Southampton, SO19 2DJ) at 9.45am, leaving at 10am. If you are driving there with bikes on the car, there is free parking at the station. You must reserve your space on this ride, so please book your place here.

Transition Talks

Transition Southampton are running a series of talks held at the Art House that focus on practical actions that we can take to reduce our own energy usage. The topics will range from "How to live green as a family--avoiding pester power" to "Eating Local - how one couple ate locally for a month" to "Creating a green home--one experience of retrofitting" and other topics, ranging from energy to built environment to food and ethical consumerism. For more information about the series of talks, please see here.

Transition_Talks_imageThe talks will be monthly on a Tuesday from 7:30pm upstairs at The Art House. For our next talk we'll hear from Clare Diaper about water usage, how we can save at home, and what impact it has. Join us on Tuesday 12th June.

At the end of each talk will be a chance to ask questions, or have a chat with other Transition-minded folks.

This is one to put in the diary, folks!

If you have an idea for a talk or workshop that you'd like to see, please e-mail courses @ transitionsouthampton [dot] org with your suggestions.

Heart and Soul group

Transition is about the head, the hands and the heart....the thinking, the doing and the being....and it feels like its time to nurture and grow a Heart and Soul group in Southampton.

The first get together will be in the form of a workshop, where we will use some of the tools from Transition Training to discuss and develop a picture of some of the things that we value in our city and some of our own personal values.

The workshop will be on Saturday 26th May, 10.30 to 1pm at St Andrews Church, The Avenue SO17 1XQ. Entry by donation to cover costs of  room hire. Tea and coffee will be provided. Please contact courses[at]transitionsouthampton[dot]org to book as space is limited.

Plant Swap at Environmental Rock

On Saturday 12th May, Transition Southampton were at Environmental Rock 2012, with lots and lots of plants that were swapped for some new and different varieties! This was part of our 'Southampton Seed Swap' series of events, watch out for seed saving workshops and produce swaps later in the year.

We also had a Tin Can Alley game where people had three chances to knock over tins which represented items that used energy in the home and participants had to choose which ones used the most. A lot of fun was had by all! The game was very successful and we hope develop our own which will appear at other events in the future (thanks WinACC for the loan of this one).
