Buildings threaten UK emission targets

Blog-Building-ReportUK targets for cutting carbon emissions by 2050 will not be met without radical changes to the engineering of buildings, a report says. The Royal Academy of Engineering has published a report that lays out a groundwork for reducing the environmental impact of new buildings as well as refurbishment of old ones. California Proposes Ban on Energy-Hogging HDTVs

California leads the way (again). The California Energy Commission is proceeding with a proposal this summer to ban the sale of TV sets that do not meet new efficiency standards when they are turned on and displaying a picture.

I know there will be people who don't think these measures go far enough but it's good to see a legislative body taking some action and shaping a market so that corporations are forced to produce more energy efficient products.

Key oil figures were distorted by US pressure, says whistleblower

The world is much closer to running out of oil than official estimates admit, according to a whistleblower at the International Energy Agency who claims it has been deliberately underplaying a looming shortage for fear of triggering panic buying.

The senior official claims the US has played an influential role in encouraging the watchdog to underplay the rate of decline from existing oil fields while overplaying the chances of finding new reserves.
